Being Muslim in America post 9/11 can be a frightful and scary thing and that was the experience recently for one Muslim mother as she sat on board a Delta Air Lines flight. Darlene Hider, a mother of four says she was harassed by another passenger for wearing a hijab and the airline sat idly by and watched.

The words that were uttered to Hider were, “This is America.”In an interview with the Huffington Post, Hider mentioned that, “It was really difficult to be belittled and spoken down to because someone saw a piece of cloth on my head. And it was so hurtful for my kids to watch.”

A video taken by a passenger aboard the same flight captured the aftermath of the incident. You can hear the flight attendant repeatedly stating that she is handling the situation and she can kick them off the flight if they don’t cooperate.

The hijab is a traditional garb worn by Muslim women to “cover their hair and their outward beauty.”Hider told the Huffington Post, that she while she is ready to forgive, she wishes for an apology from the airline.

An experiment was recently done where women wore a hijab for a day and documented their experience. Watch what they had to say.
