Visiting Dubai and maintaining a budget are normally not two things that go hand in hand.  It’s an expensive city, and you will pay for the safety you experience in this jewel of a location.  A lively vacation spot where you can freely walk out at 2:30 a.m. and not have to worry about a single person coming up to you and bothering you.

This safety and beauty will come with a high price though, not one that many people will often be able to enjoy.  So before you decide to head to Dubai, you should actively save money for at least a year in advance.  Cut your budget at home in half, and pocket all the extra money so that you will be able to enjoy the wonderful city once you get there.

First off, don’t settle for only a hotel.  You can find may rooms for rent, where you can share a flat with people and still have your privacy.  The fact that you can cut your cost of housing to about one third of the charge of a hotel is a big way to save money.  As long as you don’t mind sharing a kitchen with other people, this will be one of the best and biggest ways to save a ton of money when you are visiting Dubai.

Keep in mind that searching a site such as Dubizzle will be time consuming, but look for those rooms for rent, and pick your options.  If you want to have your own bathroom, choose that option.  There are plenty of master bedrooms that have a bathroom in them you can rent, and again, save a lot of money.

Plan to choose a location based on what you want to enjoy while in the city.  Rentals range in prices from high to super high, so you never really get a cheap place to stay.  But with that being said, some locations where the rent is a bit less are also so far out and away from easy travel choices, they really won’t be worth your time to stay at.  Locations like Tecom, Business Bay, or JLT will give you a choice of a spot where you can easily get to the metro and travel cheaply.  Another way to save money is to buy a NOL card and use that for your travel purse.  The NOL card can be used to board the metro, the newer tram system and the buses.  Taxis are expensive and may take you out of the way to run up the bill a bit.

You can enjoy this city on a budget, but it will still be quite expensive.  However, be wise and save before you go, and find a cheaper location to stay over one of the hotels in the area.  And be sure to make this an unforgettable vacation.
