Know Before You Go: Traveling Solo
You’ve got your bags packed, your ticket booked and your sights set on seeing and experiencing the world. Here’s 5 things to keep in mind when traveling solo.
Contact Info
Make sure when hitting the road that someone you trust has your contact info, places you’re staying and any other important details they need to get in touch with you. Not to say anything bad will happen but rather safe than sorry.
Make copies of all your important info
Depending on your location it is not rare for tourists to be targeted for theft and robbery. Make copies of your passport, social security card, and other important paperwork just in case you lose them or they are forcefully taken. Scan your documents and electronically mail them to yourself and or friend to hold for safekeeping.
Bring A Book
The flight to your destination may take hours and even you are traveling by boat or train to other destinations a good book will surely come in handy. While you can simply download a few eBooks there’s nothing like traveling the weather with a nice physical copy of literature.
Expect the Unexpected
In life nothing goes as planned, so don’t expect your travels to go smoothly. Embrace the roadblocks, have backup plans and sometimes learn to go with the flow.
Skip the well known cuisine and eat the local food
A Big Mac at McDonald’s in Philadelphia will most likely taste the same in Germany. Step outside of your comfort zone and don’t be afraid to dine like the locals. You never know what dishes you’ll discover.
