Today Is Stand Up For Transportation Day
April 9, 2015 is Stand Up for Transportation Day. For those who haven’t heard of this, it is a call for Congress to pass long-term legislation in regards to transportation. Our existing federal transportation funding bill expires May 31, 2015.
The website for the movement, Standup4transportation.org, points out that a strong and modern transportation system is necessary for our economy, local communities, environment, safety and America’s continued mobility. Voicesforpublictransit.org also enacted a Thunderclap which was set to post Apr 9, 12:00 PM EDT. This was part of the message Voices for Public Transit wanted to get out,
“As Voices for Public Transit, we need to make as much noise as possible to show Congress that America wants a long-term federal funding commitment to improving our transportation infrastructure, including public transportation. Our goal is to deliver thousands and thousands of petition signatures to Congress on April 9—and follow up those signatures with emails, letters to the editor, questions at town hall meetings, and more. If we show enough support, Congress will have to act.”
A list of events organized by state can be found here.
Anybody interested in signing the petition asking congress to provide long-term investment to transportation can do so at, Standup4transportation.org.
