Miss South Africa on Top of the World
The Miss World Pageant has a new Miss World for the 2014 year. Miss England narrowly lost in the final round of the competition to lose the World Crown in London.
Cambridge University medical student Carina Tyrrell, 24, was voted as the second favorite to with the competition and lost in the final moments to Miss South Africa. The top three places in the beauty pageant were announced in reverse order with Miss USA finishing in third and Miss Hungary being named runner-up.
Jessica Hayes, who was representing Ireland in the Miss World competition had no regrets about missing out on her spot for the title.
The best part of the day was “representing my country,” she said.
“I am delighted for Rolene. She is so, so nice. I was delighted for her, she is such a genuine girl, and I got on really well with her, so if there was anyone that should have won it was her,” said a gracious Jessica.
The competition featured a dance that all of the ladies had rehearsed for the show.
“It was the same dance for everyone,” she said. “We had rehearsed everything down to a tee, so it kind of took away the nerves.”
The 22-year-old fourth-year medical student at University of the Free State, was presented with the sash by the outgoing Miss World, Megan Young of the Philippines. Social media outlets were soon abuzz with the reaction for her crowning — giving Strauss mostly positive feedback on her win.
