Backpacking is awesome! In fact, it’s something that you should try at least once in your life, but there’s a few things you should know before venturing out into the wild. Here are our 7 tips every backpacker should know:

1. Research, Research, Research

It’s important to know about your destination and the surrounding environment before you get there. Learn about what plants are edible, what animals you should watch out for and last but not least, if you are attacked by a poisonous snake, where you can get help.

2. Learn About The Culture

Culture

If you’re from the states, things you do here don’t fly overseas. Learn about the culture and what things, topics, sayings or actions you should avoid.

3. Budget, Budget, Budget

As my mother always said, “place something away for a rainy day.”You never know what kind of emergencies will arise. Better to have this factored into your budget then to be left empty handed.

4. Grab An International Phone

The cellphone plan you have in the states will probably not work overseas. Make sure you talk to your network provider to see what alternative options you have.

5. Pack Light

This one doesn’t need to be explained that much, but, if you’re going backpacking, you shouldn’t be carrying six huge bags. Stick to carry-ons.

6. Stock Up On The Essentials

In the wild, toilet paper becomes a luxury. Make sure you grab the essentials you need, like wet napkins and toilet paper.

7. Water Bottles Are Your Best Friend

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have your water bottle. If you can splurge on a water bottle that can filter and purify any type of water into clean drinking water.
