New York City is known for many things. Being cheap or affordable is not one of them. So whether you’re a seasoned veteran of the city or newbie tourist, here are five ways to help you save money while in New York City.

  1. Avoid Using Cabs

Using a taxi is a luxury. If you’re looking to save funds, there are plenty of other cheaper options for transportation. You can walk or use the subway for substantially less than one cab fare.

  1. Look For Deals

One of the best times of day to eat in New York City is during lunch hour. Plenty of great eateries offer lunch specials, including some gourmet options. Also, many tourists are unaware many of the museums have “suggested donation” pricing rather than fees. However, by avoiding this small print, you are shelling out more money than you have to.

  1. Eat Pizza

One of the cheapest meals you can get in NYC is pizza. So forget about the pricey restaurants. Buy pizza and spend your money on things that count.

  1. Don’t Waste Money Going To The Gym

Whether you’re visiting the city, or you live there, New York City has one of the greatest parks at your disposal. As long as the weather is nice, avoid the extra expenses and go for a walk or run.

  1. Carry Cash

You don’t have to carry around loads of money, but it is wise to keep around twenty bucks on you. Many of the little stores you want to go to for small grocery items (milk, cereal, etc.), require a minimum purchase amount. So avoid buying things you don’t need, by carry a little money in your pocket.
