Along with summer comes the height of travel season. People love to travel to as many places for as long as they can; so it’s no surprise many of us need to stick to a budget. Keep your vacation happy and help stretch your dollar as much as possible by using these five ways to utilize vacation savings.

Vacation Savings

Book Early

Typically, the sooner you book the bigger the vacation savings. This is especially true if you are trying to go on a cruise. Early bird rates for help you save on your cruise tickets anywhere from 25 to 50 percent off rates seen in publications or advertisements.

Know When to Book

If you plan on booking a domestic flight, make sure to book on Tuesday afternoons around 3 PM EST. Southwest, AirTran, and a few other airlines release their new sales on Tuesday mornings, so the larger airlines like Delta or United can take until the afternoon to start matching the lower costs. However, beware of the sales window; as most sales prices are only valid from Tuesday to Thursday.

Think Beyond Hotels

When traveling, you don’t have to stick to accommodations in hotels. Many alternative lodgings can be more adventurous and cheaper. For instance, there are places in France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Scotland where you can stay in a castle.

Exchange Rate Deals

Never forget about exchange rates. If you look into currency considerations when booking your trip, remember some countries become great deals because the exchange rate works in your favor.

You Leave When?

If you plan on flying, make sure to fly on either: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday. Aside from when these days fall around a holiday, they are the cheapest days to fly on.
